Brief Bio

My current research is focused on a novel swine paramyxovirus molecular and pathogenic characterization and develops it into vaccine vector for other pathogens. I love outdoor activities such as hiking, rafting and ski, and I love watching movie in my spare time. I love animals especially the wildlife animals. Chimpanzees and dolphins are my favorite.

Research Project Involvement

  • Reverse Genetic system of a novel Swine Paramyxovirus
Two novel swine paramyxovirus viruses were isolated from the pigs experienced respiratory and neurological symptoms. We initiate the molecular and pathogenic characterization of the novel swine paramyxoviruses and try to establish a reverse genetic system. We will use the reverse genetic system to rescue recombinant virus engineered by molecular biology technique and use it as vaccine for other pathogens.
  • Protease activation mutants Newcastle Disease Virus
Newcastle Disease Virus(NDV) is a naturally oncolytic virus. By changing the F cleavage site of the fusion glycoprotein of NDV, the site becomes susceptible to MMPs(Matrix metalloproteinases), a group of protease that are highly expressed in tumor cells but not in normal cells. These recombinant viruses rescued from NDV reverse genetic system will require specific protease to replicate and spread which will be only present in tumor cells and by this way, these viruses can be used in cancer theropy.
